Heymat brings sustainable design to your doorstep
Made from recycled materials, Heymat’s new collection of doormats pleases both the eye and the environment.
Norwegian company Heymat has been producing high-quality design mats from the rough Arctic since 2015. At the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, 5-9 February 2019, the family-owned manufacturer presents Heymat+, a new collection with pile in 100% recycled plastic.
“Design could, and should, be sustainable,” says Sonja Djønne, CEO of Heymat. “We have done our utmost to create a doormat that delivers on quality, design and sustainability, and we are very excited to present the result in Stockholm.”
Norwegian design, industrial quality
Heymat+ is created by Kristine Five Melvær, one of Norway’s leading designers. Inspired by water, vegetation and zen gardens, the three monochromatic mats are beautiful additions to any home. The decorative 3D patterns also ensure a scratch effect that efficiently deals with dirt and grime. Like all Heymat’s products, Heymat+ comes with anti-slip backing in SBR rubber, a partially recycled material.
“The mats aren’t just environmentally friendly because they are recycled, but their high quality ensures a long life,” says designer Five Melvær. “It’s up to me to create a design that makes the customer want to use it for the same amount of time.”

Design with a conscience
Heymat+ is part of a Heymat’s strategy to make the product-ion and products as environmentally friendly as possible. The process started in 2017, when the company replaced nylon with PET,
a material with improved absorption capacity made from 50% recycled plastic.
“Our aim is to make mats that are functional, environment-ally friendly and nice to look at. We want you and your home to enjoy your Heymat for years to come – and with a good conscience,” says CEO Sonja Djønne.
In Stockholm, Heymat will also present new collections Å, Nord og Føn by designer Magnus Voll Mathiassen.
Heymat is a family-owned company in Mo i Rana in Norway, building on years of experience from the laundry industry. Spouses Sonja Djønne and Thoralf Lian founded the business in 2015, wishing to combine the quality and innovation of industrial mats with contemporary Norwegian design. Heymat has since become an important part of people’s homes in Norway and abroad, and the mats are available in Norway, Japan, USA and Canada.
